A standard homeowners insurance policy is designed to protect your home, personal belongings, and liability. With Mangrove, most policies include:

• Dwelling coverage – for damage to your home’s structure from covered events like wind, fire, or theft
• Other structures – for things like fences, sheds, or detached garages
• Personal property – coverage for your belongings inside the home (furniture, clothing, electronics, etc.)
• Loss of use – helps pay for temporary living expenses if your home is uninhabitable due to a covered loss
• Personal liability – protection if you’re legally responsible for injury or property damage to others
• Medical payments to others – limited coverage for minor injuries that happen on your property

Always review your policy for specific coverages and limits — and talk to your agent about adding optional endorsements for extra protection.

• Your homeowners insurance policy includes deductibles, which are the amounts you’re responsible for paying out of pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in. At Mangrove, we have two separate deductibles: one for hurricanes and one for everything else covered within the policy.
• Hurricane Deductible
  • Applies only to damage caused by a named hurricane, as declared by the National Weather Service.
  • Typically a percentage of your home’s insured value (e.g., 2%, 5%).
    For example, if your home is insured for $300,000 and your hurricane deductible is 2%, you’d pay the first $6,000 of hurricane-related damage.
  • Only triggered during a specific timeframe around when the hurricane watch or warning is issued and lifted.
• AOP (All Other Perils) Deductible
  • Applies to all other covered risks like fire, theft, lightning, or wind damage not caused by a named hurricane.
  • Usually a flat dollar amount (e.g., $1,000 or $2,500), depending on your policy.
  • This is the deductible that applies most often for everyday claims not related to hurricanes.

Both are important in Florida, but they cover different risks:

• Wind insurance covers damage from windstorms, including hurricanes and tropical storms. It’s part of your standard homeowners policy (though the policy has a separate hurricane deductible).
• Flood insurance covers water damage from rising water outside the home — like storm surge, heavy rain, or overflowing canals. This type of damage is not covered by homeowners insurance and must be purchased separately, often through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

1. Stay safe – Make sure you and your family are safe before inspecting any damage.
2. Document the damage – Take photos or video of all affected areas and items.
3. Prevent further damage – If it’s safe to do so, take steps to prevent additional loss (e.g., turn off the water).

Being prepared means having the right information on hand. We recommend keeping both physical and digital copies of:

• Your Mangrove policy documents
• A list (or video/photos) of your home inventory
• Receipts for major purchases, upgrades, or appliances
• Contact information for your agent and Mangrove Claims
• Copies of your driver’s license and mortgage documents.
• Emergency plans, evacuation routes, and shelter info

Store copies in a waterproof folder and back them up in a secure cloud storage you can take with you if evacuating.
