Position Summary: The Personal Lines Product Manager is responsible for the development, management, enhancement, and ongoing performance of personal lines insurance products, with a primary focus on homeowners and related property insurance offerings. This individual serves as the product subject matter expert and collaborates closely with underwriting, risk, compliance, claims, operations, technology, distribution, and executive leadership teams to ensure products remain competitive, profitable, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.
This role is highly analytical and strategic, leading product research, form development, product filings, market analysis, and product implementation initiatives. The Personal Lines Product Manager will evaluate market opportunities, monitor emerging trends, manage regulatory filings, coordinate product launches, and oversee continuous product improvement efforts across the organization.
The ideal candidate combines deep personal lines insurance expertise, strong analytical and business acumen, product development experience, and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives that support profitable growth and long-term organizational success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Strategy and Development
• Serve as the subject matter expert for personal lines insurance products, including homeowners, dwelling fire, and related coverages.
• Lead the development, enhancement, and management of personal lines products throughout their lifecycle.
• Identify market opportunities and recommend new product offerings, coverage enhancements, and strategic initiatives.
• Conduct product performance reviews and recommend actions to improve profitability, competitiveness, and customer value.
• Develop and maintain product roadmaps aligned with organizational strategy and growth objectives.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to prioritize product initiatives and long-term product strategy.
Product Research and Market Intelligence
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to evaluate industry trends, product innovations, underwriting approaches, and market opportunities.
• Monitor competitor filings, litigation trends, emerging risks, regulatory developments, and consumer demands.
• Analyze internal performance metrics, claims experience, underwriting results, and market feedback to support product decisions.
• Develop recommendations supported by data, research, and business analysis.
• Present findings and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
Product Forms and Filing Management
• Lead the development and maintenance of policy forms, endorsements, rules, and related product documentation.
• Coordinate and oversee product, forms, and rule filings with state insurance regulators.
• Partner with compliance, legal, and regulatory teams to ensure filings meet applicable state and federal requirements.
• Manage filing timelines, regulatory correspondence, approvals, objections, and implementation activities.
• Support actuarial and rating teams in coordinating product changes with associated rate filings when applicable.
Cross-Functional Product Implementation
• Lead cross-functional product initiatives from concept through implementation and ongoing management.
• Partner with underwriting, operations, claims, technology, actuarial, agency, and customer service teams to ensure successful product launches.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications for system configuration and development.
• Coordinate implementation planning, testing, training, communication, and change management activities.
• Ensure product changes are accurately reflected in systems, workflows, procedures, and training materials.
Regulatory and Compliance Support
• Ensure products comply with applicable insurance laws, regulations, and company standards.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess impacts to existing and future product offerings.
• Partner with compliance and legal stakeholders to implement required product modifications.
• Promote and uphold the company’s commitment to ethics, integrity, compliance, and responsible business practices.
Product Performance and Analytics
• Develop and monitor key product performance indicators and management reporting.
• Analyze premium growth, retention, profitability, loss trends, customer feedback, and market share performance.
• Provide actionable recommendations to improve product results and operational effectiveness.
• Support executive leadership with product reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities.
Training and Stakeholder Support
• Develop and deliver product education, training programs, and materials for internal and external stakeholders.
• Serve as a resource for underwriting, operations, claims, distribution partners, and leadership teams regarding product interpretation and application.
• Support communication efforts related to product launches, enhancements, and regulatory changes.
• Ensure stakeholders understand product objectives, capabilities, and implementation requirements.
Strategic and Executive Support
• Partner closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and special projects.
• Provide product analysis and recommendations that support organizational growth and profitability objectives.
• Take ownership of special assignments and enterprise-wide initiatives as needed.
• Serve as a trusted resource and problem solver across all areas of product management and product development.
Qualifications Preferred
• Experience supporting startup, growth-stage, or rapidly evolving insurance organizations.
• Experience with Florida homeowners insurance products and catastrophe-exposed markets.
• CPCU, CIC, ARM, or other relevant insurance designation.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree (MBA, CPCU, or equivalent) preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in Personal Lines insurance, with significant exposure to homeowners insurance products.
• 3-5+ years of product management, product development, underwriting, forms development, or related insurance leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience with insurance forms drafting, regulatory filings, and product implementation initiatives.
Technical Expertise
• Deep knowledge of personal lines insurance products, underwriting principles, coverage forms, and policy language.
• Strong understanding of Florida insurance regulations, rate and form filing processes, and marketplace dynamics.
• Experience conducting competitive analysis, market research, and product performance evaluation.
• Familiarity with insurance technology platforms, policy administration systems, and data analytics tools.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel capabilities.
