Position Overview
The ETL Developer will support enterprise data initiatives by designing, building, and maintaining robust data integration pipelines, databases, data warehouses, and business intelligence solutions for Mangrove Property Insurance Company. The role requires strong technical expertise in ETL/ELT processes, database design and administration, data modeling, reporting, and analytics. The ideal candidate brings experience working in cloud-based data environments and delivering reliable, production-grade data assets, dashboards, and reporting solutions that support operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
ETL/ELT Design & Development
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Maintain high data quality, consistency, and reliability across ingestion, transformation, and storage layers.
- Optimize pipeline performance for speed, reliability, and cost efficiency in batch and near-real-time environments.
- Develop automated data validation and monitoring processes to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
Database Design & Administration
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise databases, data warehouses, and data marts to support business operations, reporting, and analytics.
- Develop and maintain database objects, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and data models.
- Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies to improve scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
- Perform database maintenance activities, including backup validation, indexing, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Ensure database security, access controls, and adherence to data governance standards.
Data Architecture & Modeling
- Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models with clear lineage and business rules.
- Implement transformation logic aligned with insurance domain needs, including policy lifecycle, claims data structures, underwriting, financial, and exposure datasets.
- Collaborate with data architects and business stakeholders to ensure alignment with enterprise data frameworks and standards.
- Support the evolution of the enterprise data warehouse and reporting architecture.
Reporting & Business Intelligence
- Design, develop, and maintain operational, management, and executive-level reports and dashboards.
- Create interactive business intelligence solutions using tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Partner with business users to gather reporting requirements, define KPIs, and deliver actionable insights.
- Develop and maintain data models and semantic layers that support self-service reporting and analytics.
- Support ad hoc reporting, data analysis, and dashboard development for business stakeholders.
Operational Support & Governance
- Monitor and troubleshoot production ETL processes, databases, and reporting environments, ensuring timely resolution of failures and performance issues.
- Document workflows, database schemas, data dictionaries, mappings, dashboards, and standard operating procedures.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., OIR filings, NAIC data calls, financial reporting, and reinsurance reporting) through accurate and auditable data processes.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and retention policies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales, Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, Finance, Claims, Reinsurance, and Executive Management teams to understand data and reporting needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Support analytics teams by delivering curated datasets, reporting solutions, dashboards, and reproducible transformation logic.
- Provide technical guidance on data availability, quality, reporting capabilities, and business intelligence best practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines in enterprise environments.
- Strong SQL proficiency and experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise databases and data warehouses.
- Proficiency with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Matillion, or equivalent.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards, and business intelligence solutions using Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Experience working in cloud data ecosystems (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and data quality frameworks.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex data integration, database, and reporting issues in production environments.
Preferred
- Prior experience in the property & casualty insurance sector, ideally Florida homeowners insurance.
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages for automation and data processing.
- Familiarity with API integrations and event-driven architectures.
- Experience supporting executive reporting, KPI development, and business performance analytics.
- Knowledge of regulatory data requirements, including OIR reporting, NAIC filings, takeout data, financial reporting, and reinsurance reporting.
